Ryan Styles is what happens when your emo band never quite makes it and your midlife crisis involves going viral on TikTok instead of buying a motorcycle. Back in the mid-2000s, he fronted a now-defunct Ohio band called Reserved, opening for scene royalty like The Used, My Chemical Romance, Senses Fail, and Gatsby’s American Dream. They had fans. Mostly in their hometown.

Fast-forward a couple decades and Ryan is now a suburban dad with a knack for nostalgia and a surprisingly deep knowledge of Taylor Swift lore. Somewhere along the line, the Swifties adopted him, crowned him “The Swemo Guy,” and made him the unofficial spokesperson for the bizarrely perfect marriage of two very different kinds of heartbreak anthems.
